EXCEL, our program for children, teens, and young adults, is committed to helping individuals and families with differing abilities, including those with developmental disabilities. EXCEL provides recreational and educational opportunities, including swimming lessons, baking, art, drama, computers and technology, career development, and healthy expression.
EXCEL also includes classes for the whole family and special events geared toward caregivers. We serve children and adults from age 4-35 years old. Classes run in cycles and take place on the weekends. Siblings are welcome to join and receive a discount.
Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, EXCEL AQUATIC/SWIMMING classes are suspended
EXCEL COURSES FOR CHILDREN: (age 4-13)
Stress relief! Movements are gentle and easy follow while the music is upbeat to energize you as you move together. Bond, burn energy and smile!
This class is designed to strengthen students' communications skills, enhance fundamental computer skills, build on knowledge on how to use the Internet (with emphasis on social media) for social as well as career development purposes. Laptops will be provided for each student to practice exercises in class.
EXCEL COURSES FOR TEENS & YOUNG ADULTS: (age 14-34)
In a team setting, students will develop creativity and performance skills while discovering new things about themselves. This course uses drama to enhance expression, speech and vocal skills as well as build confidence, friendships and community. There will be an opportunity to perform in University Settlement’s professional theater, Speyer Hall located at 184 Eldridge St.
This class is designed to strengthen students' communications skills, enhance fundamental computer skills (including MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint), build on knowledge on how to use the Internet (with emphasis on social media) for social as well as career development purposes. Laptops will be provided for each student to practice exercises in class. Students will be placed in Level 1 or Level 2 class based on their current skill level.
Through graceful movements, meditation, and controlled breathing techniques, QiGong promotes the circulation of qi, the ancient notion of "energy flow," within the body, enhancing physical and emotional health.
