Calling All Volunteers to Support Our Home-Bound Seniors!

If you’re passionate about the wellbeing of our city’s older adults and have a skill you’d like to share, then we have a place for you!

Volunteer with Wellness Together at University Settlement

At University Settlement, we partner with older adults in the Lower East Side and Chinatown to provide a compressive range of programming that ensures they are active, connected and cared for. Every year, more than 2,000 of our neighbors participate in programs ranging from water aerobics and social dancing to music and cultural offerings.

Through Wellness Together, we aim to improve the quality of life specifically for older adults who are homebound for health reasons or because they are caregivers. We do this by making access to nurses, social services, education and recreational activities easy and engaging.

To support these efforts, we are looking for bilingual volunteers who are interested in:

  • Conducting home visits for older adults who require support for basic at home needs like explaining letters they receive in the mail and writing checks
  • Making wellness calls to check-up on folks and combat isolation through conversation
  • Providing engaging activities virtually; anything from craft making, yoga, CPR training to history lessons

Please complete this form and we’ll reach out to you soon to discuss the opportunity further: Volunteer with Wellness Together

Key Qualifications:

While some of the older adults we work speak a basic level of English, they are most comfortable with their first language, which includes Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian, and Polish. For this reason it is important that volunteers be bi-lingual in one of these languages. In addition to language capacity, the nature of these volunteer opportunities require relationship building and so we are not able to accommodate one-time requests. We kindly ask that volunteers commit to working with us for an agreed upon time based on the type of engagement chosen.
