Alyse Amato (Director of Partnerships, ATLAS Fellows) has been elected to University Settlement’s Board of Directors, the nation’s first settlement house announced today.
Alyse is a New Jersey native with a strong commitment to advancing equity in education and the workforce. She currently serves as Director of Partnerships at ATLAS Fellows, where she builds strategic employer and nonprofit partnerships that expand access to careers in financial services.
Alyse began her career as a Teach for America Corps Member, where she taught high school math in the New Orleans region. She continued teaching at North Star Academy Washington Park High School, part of the Uncommon Schools charter network. Alyse held a variety of positions while at North Star including managing the school’s High School Talent Program, an initiative designed to expose students to internships and project-based learning, and their alumni career services programming. She has also managed corporate partnerships at the Marcy Lab School, a rigorous college alternative program designed to prepare young people from under-resourced backgrounds for careers in software engineering.
“We are thrilled to welcome Alyse to our Board,” said Melissa E. Aase, CEO of University Settlement. “Her heartfelt commitment to building access to high quality education for everyone and her strong understanding of how thoughtful partnerships can expand opportunity will be immediate assets to our organization. She will add important perspective to our Board and strengthen our work alongside communities across Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn.”
“University Settlement has a long and powerful history of standing alongside New Yorkers and nurturing opportunity where it’s needed most,” said Amato. “I’m honored to join its Board and to support an organization that leads with equity, partnership, and deep respect for community.”
