A Day Without Services, calling for #JustPay, will take place on May 25, 2023

On May 25th, University Settlement is joining human services organizations across NYC to demand wage justice for our workers.

For too long, City government has severely underpaid workers at organizations, like University Settlement, that receive government contracts for the provision of human services. These workers – your friends, family, and neighbors – are the New Yorkers who care for infants in early childcare centers, who lead after school programs for young people, and who deliver meals to older adults.

An astounding two-thirds of human services workers earned below the near-poverty threshold in 2019. Poverty wages for human services workers cause staff job vacancies, putting our programs at risk and harming our ability to keep serving our neighbors

On May 25th, our teams will be rallying at City Hall at 11 a.m. to declare that a New York City budget that supports working New Yorkers must include a cost of living adjustment (COLA) for the city-contracted human services workers.

You can support our workers by emailing your City Council Member and the Mayor to demand livable wages for human services workers using this link on 5/25: https://www.justpayny.org/a-day-without-services
