Tempest Tossed:
a Shakespeare Cabaret

show

Join us on November 11 for Tempest Tossed: A Shakespeare Cabaret

Please join University Settlement for a magical and inspiring evening at The Players, the historic members-only clubhouse for artists and creatives on Gramercy Park.

You’ll enjoy artisanal hors d’oeuvres, wines and a full bar, and an evening of boundless imagination courtesy of the New Place Players, who will perform “Tempest Tossed,” their transformative and approachable new adaption of Shakespeare’s classic. This production engages with themes relevant to contemporary supporters of University Settlement including justice, restoration, freedom, and forgiveness.

The cost of your ticket will also meaningfully support University Settlement’s Adult Literacy program, which shares free English classes, work readiness support, and civics education with 450 of our newest neighbors weaving their own NYC dreams every year. Just ask anyone who joined us in 2023 for “The Masque of Night: A Romeo & Juliet Cabaret” – you won’t want to miss this one-night-only event!

Tempest Tossed will benefit University Settlement’s Adult Literacy program. Your ticket purchase will help ensure that every year 450 immigrant New Yorkers will learn the English language skills needed to gain employment, further their education, exercise their civil rights, participate in their children’s education, attain citizenship and more.

The Players is a members-only club of artists and arts lovers, located in their 1847 Gramercy Park mansion, a treasure reminiscent of the Gilded Age. Members are drawn from careers on the stage and screen, the visual arts, music and literature, as well as patrons of the arts from a wide range of professions.

The New Place Players are an ensemble of actors and musicians that create dynamic, fully realized productions of Shakespeare’s plays. Their unique interplay of acting, live music & sound textures inform every aspect of their performances, from the story, to character development, and to the rich imagery and poetry of the text. They perform in theaters, clubs, public spaces and private homes without a fourth wall. Audiences are drawn into the world of the plays in an intimate, powerful and direct shared experience.
