Play Tank

The Play Tank Model for Creative Professional Development

Community-based organizations running camps and after-school programs are among the largest employers of young adults in New York City. Through these programs, many youth workers are tasked with using the arts to create transformational experiences for the children they work with, yet often their own exposure and access to the arts has been extremely limited. The Play Tank Model for Creative Professional Development is University Settlement's direct response to this challenge. It is designed to support young community leaders as they develop their talents and creatively empower themselves.

We believe the professional and creative development of young adults is a vital part of providing high-quality programming and building strong communities. As a result, University Settlement is now offering two different tracks to support young adults.

The Group Performance Intensive is a 16-week opportunity for young artists to practice and expand their performance and collaboration skills. This intensive culminates in the creation of an original collaborative production that is professionally presented by The Performance Project.

The Play Tank Fellowship (PTF) is a year-long creative career mentorship program. It is specifically designed for local, young adult artists and cultural organizers (between the ages of 18-26) who want the intensive support needed to build a sustainable career in the creative sector.
