lower east sidekick: a pairing of plays for very young audiences
Trusty Sidekick Theater Company will be performing two plays during LES History Month for kids and families. The first play, Earth, takes a peek at the secret lives of the celestial custodians who watch over the planet we call home. The second play, Campfire, will gather you around the campfire with stories and puppetry; you'll gaze through our binoculars, look for shooting stars and entertain porcupines with a good joke.
Earth - Saturday, May 3, 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Campfire - Saturday, May 17, at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

The waistmakers' opera, with downtown art
In 1911, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire claimed 146 lives, mostly young women. These women were more than just victims; they were activists, leading the Uprising of the 20,000, the largest strike by women ever seen in America. This modern rock opera is composed by Michael Hickey and written and directed by Ryan Gilliam. Performed by an all-female company of twenty young singers and musicians, The Waistmakers' Opera is their story.

illyria/loisada: a walking tour of the lower east side
Take a theatrical and historical walking tour of the Lower East Side that doubles as a modern language take on Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. This story, with its themes of mourning and displacement, provides an ideal backdrop for the lightning-fast neighborhood transformations that take place in New York City. Three intersecting neighborhood tours, led by characters from the play, will include visits to local establishments and iconic locations. Don't miss this opportunity to see the Lower East Side in a new way with Conni's Avant Garde Restaurant's Illyria/Loisada.
