Film Screening: Evolution of a Criminal

February 11, 2015
6 p.m.
Ingersoll Community Center
177 Myrtle Avenue

In partnership with the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) and the Black Future Month Film Series, Ingersoll Community Center will be hosting a film screening of Evolution of a Criminal

In Evolution of a Criminal, filmmaker Darius Clark Monroe explores what led him to pull a heist as a teenager in Texas, and returns to the scene of the crime. Through interviews with family members, close friends and mentors, we learn about the moment when Monroe - a joyous child - realizes the severity of his family's financial struggles, transforming his outlook on his own life and responsibilities. Coming back to his neighborhood many years later, Monroe creates an incredibly intimate and personal journey of reflection and forgiveness, while beautifully examining lower class struggles, the desperation of a teen under pressure, and the emotional impact that rippled in the aftermath of that day.

A Q&A with filmmaker Darius Clark Monroe will follow the screening.
