Check out our 2014 Spring Season!

University Settlement's Performance Project is a public performance project that finds concrete ways to reestablish and articulate the importance of the arts within the education system and the community at large. Performances include established, new and emerging artists. We are committed to creatively incorporating artists into programming at University Settlement, including our after-school programs, The Door, the Houston Street Center and the Beacon. Artists can work with specific programs or age groups and propose participant workshops, professional development trainings, community events or interactive art making experiences.

Inspired by the Lower East Side, Roots&Branches Theater's Home, Again tells stories of projects and studios, stoops and sidewalks, cafes and dives. An intergenerational company of actors (ages 12-90) burst into song; synagogues and delis transform into churches and bodegas; seniors squeeze together with twenty-somethings into impossibly tiny apartments. Recent arrivals invoke the ghosts of past immigrants, realtors lurk in every alley and now the ugliest rug in a run-down apartment is worth a fortune. Even the walls can talk. This show will ask key questions about our perception of home: What makes a home? What forges a community? Who will inherit this one?

Following the show on Thursday, June 19, Roots&Branches will also be hosting a special gala to benefit their theater company. The gala ticket includes admission to Home, Again, a party with Roots&Branches following the performance and a preview of future shows. Purchase these special package tickets for June 19 online today. Please note that the proceeds of this gala will benefit Roots&Branches, not University Settlement.
