There's No Place Like Home

Last spring New Yorkers faced funding cuts of unprecedented depth in programs they depend on to keep their families safe and secure. Of the many services at risk, University Settlement's eviction prevention program was one of the most severely threatened, potentially leaving thousands of families at risk of losing their homes. In a major partnership with others across the City, we sprang to action to get those funds back. And we succeeded.

On September 27, University Settlement celebrated this triumph with peers, supporters, clients, and City officials at our home on Eldridge Street and began to rally for the inevitable challenges ahead.

Last budget season illustrated the strength of our combined voices. Stay tuned to learn how you can get involved in the year ahead >

DIRECTV Latin America Revamps Ingersoll Community Center

DIRECTV Volunteers

Recently nearly 40 volunteers from DIRECTV donated their time to give our newest site, the Ingersoll Community Center in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, a much needed boost. During three intensive days, the volunteers made a lasting impact by installing new flat screen TVs and laptop computers, revitalizing ourdoor garden spaces, and beautifying classrooms, all in service of families in the surrounding neighborhood. But it wasn't all work and no play; each day ended with exciting activities for our after-school kids, including carnival games, sports, and a dance party. Volunteers even enjoyed a visit from the Brooklyn Nets!

DIRECTV Latin America's goal is to leave a lasting impact in the communities they serve. We are honored to have been selected as their second U.S. volunteer site, and first in New York City. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, Ingersoll is - and will remain - the high quality community center our families deserve.
