Program Assistant- TWO PART-TIME positions

University Settlement Neighborhood Center, serving Manhattan's Lower East Side offers a robust menu of services to a diverse population of older adults aged 60 and older. The multi-service program provides case assistance, meals, health and wellness activities, recreational and educational activities.

Our Older Adults program is seeking two part time Program Assistants to assist with day-to-day operations and activities at two locations.  The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with older adults, preparing activities, decorating the center for our members and experienced with administrative duties.


  • Assist with day-to-day operations and activities
  • Organize and conduct activities, parties and trips
  • Schedule presentations from community organizations
  • Decorate center and order supplies for special events
  • Prepare flyers, calendars, bulletin boards and menu board
  • Manage attendance records and daily activities; reports must be submitted
  • Assist with translations
  • Assist in recruiting and overseeing volunteers
  • Attend community meetings
  • Other duties as requested by supervisor


  • Associates or two year of college required
  • Bilingual in English/Cantonese or Mandarin required: reading, writing, speaking fluently
  • Experience working with older adults, nursing home, or group work
  • Knowledge of gerontology
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, detail oriented
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel - Publisher or Adobe InDesign a plus
  • Must work well in a multi-cultural, multi-lingual & multi-ethnic environment
  • Creative, engaging, energetic preferred
  • Food handler certificate, AED (must get upon hire)

Salary: $17.59 per hour

Hours: 17 hours per week
