Overview: University Settlement is one of New York City's most dynamic social justice institutions, with an impressive legacy as the first settlement house in the nation. For 130 years, University Settlement has been an anchor in the low-income and immigrant communities where we work, offering pioneering programs in early childhood care and education, youth development, eviction prevention, literacy, theater and visual arts, senior services, and mental health. Each year, we engage over 40,000 New Yorkers through our network of 30 sites in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Our mission is to empower the individuals we serve through comprehensive, quality services that strengthen families and meet the current needs of the community.

University Settlement Neighborhood Center, serving Manhattan's Lower East Side offers a robust menu of services to a diverse population of older adults aged 60 and older. The multi-service program provides case assistance, lunch, health and wellness activities, recreational and educational activities.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for ordering, receiving, inspecting, and safe storage of dry, perishable, and frozen food, including daily check of refrigerator and freezer temperatures
Prepare, cook, and serve meals with the chef in accordance with the New York City Department of Health and the New York City Department for the Aging for at least 50 congregate breakfasts and 170 congregate lunches daily
Oversee work of volunteers and individuals assigned to meal service
Prepare work schedule with Director and Chef
Prepare daily food cost records
Make local food purchases if needed
Attend training sessions
Collaborate with Director and Chef on Menus
Ensure that all kitchen equipment is cleaned and sanitized weekly
Clean all pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment on a daily basis
Clean stoves and ovens once a week, clean refrigerators weekly
Other duties as assigned by Director
