Administrative Assistant, Village View NORC

Overview: University Settlement is one of New York City's most dynamic social justice institutions, with an impressive legacy as the first settlement house in the nation. For 130 years, University Settlement has been an anchor in the low-income and immigrant communities where we work, offering pioneering programs in early childhood care and education, youth development, eviction prevention, literacy, theater and visual arts, senior services, and mental health. Each year, we engage over 40,000 New Yorkers through our network of 30 sites in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Our mission is to empower the individuals we serve through comprehensive, quality services that strengthen families and meet the current needs of the community.

University Settlement Neighborhood Center, serving Manhattan's Lower East Side offers a robust menu of services to a diverse population of older adults aged 60 and older.  The multi-service program provides case assistance, meals, health and wellness activities, recreational and educational activities. 


Responsibilities:

  • Assist with day-to-day operations and activities
  • Decorate center and order supplies for special events
  • Prepare flyers, calendars, bulletin boards and menu board
  • Manage attendance records and daily activities; reports must be submitted
  • Keep attendance records through data entry on all activities and submit monthly reports
  • Assist with monthly inventory and monthly food cost reports
  • Assist with clerical duties
  • Other duties as requested by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Associates or two year of college  preferred
  • Bilingual in English/Chinese /Polish/Ukranian: preferred, reading, writing, speaking   
  • Experience working with older adults, nursing home, or group work
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, detail oriented
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel - Publisher or Adobe InDesign a plus
  • Must work well in a multi-cultural, multi-lingual & multi-ethnic environment
  • Creative, engaging, energetic and sense of humor preferred
  • Must enjoy working with older adults
  •  AED (must get upon hire)

Salary: $18.12 per hour 


Hours: 17 hours per week
