Accountant

As the first settlement house in the nation and for over 130 years, University Settlement has been empowering New York residents by building on their strengths through comprehensive, quality services that meet the current needs of the community; innovation that anticipates future needs; and advocacy to improve the community as a whole.

As the Accountant, you are responsible for maintaining timely and accurate agency financial records, in accordance with standard fiscal practices and requirements of funders. You are a link between University Settlement and the finance department and will ensure policies and procedures are being followed.


What You Will Be Doing:

  • Responsible for distribution and reconciliation of MetroCards & Petty Cash
  • In conjunction with FCU management, manage day-to-day activities of the Federal Credit Union
  • Codify receipts for deposit and prepare deposit slips
  • Monitor and report individual program expenditures and income
  • Conduct monthly analysis of trial balance/general ledger and perform adjustments as needed
  • Prepare materials and records for program audits and year-end working papers for auditors
  • Perform additional relevant duties as requested by management

What We Are Looking For:

  • You have 2+ years of Accounting experience (one year in not-for-profit).
  • You meet deadlines on time, all the time.
  • You thrive in a busy environment and able to handle pressure.
  • You are organized and passionate about accuracy.
  • You know that communication is key.
  • You have intermediate Excel skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • Willingness to be an advocate for your program, participants and community
  • You have experience with INTACCT and Quickbooks
  • You have a strong commitment to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion.

Hours: 35 hours per week


Salary: Low 50s, plus generous benefits package
