Substitute Teacher

Supervisor: Assistant Director for Childhood Development

Our mission is to empower the individuals we serve through comprehensive, quality services that strengthen families and meet the current needs of the community.

Early Head Start offers comprehensive child development services, family support services and advocacy to low-income pregnant women and families with children under three years of age. The program provides developmentally appropriate care and home visits to families in the Lower East Side, NY.


  • Lead classroom sessions
  • Provide educational support to classroom staff
  • Develop and implement an engaging, challenging and playful classroom curriculum
  • Develop consistent, stable and supportive relationships with children
  • Communicate effectively with classroom staff and direct supervisor
  • Other duties as requested by the supervisor to fulfill job responsibilities


  • Child Development Associate (CDA) or Associates Degree in Early Childhood preferred
  • Bi-lingual skills in English/Chinese or English/Spanish strongly preferred
  • Two to three years of experience working with toddlers and preschoolers in a classroom setting
  • Must have good organization, communication, and writing skills

Hours: Up to 35 hours per week, as needed basis 

Rate: $15.00 per hour
