Group Leader- Brooklyn

As the first settlement house in the nation and for over 130 years, University Settlement has been empowering New York residents by building on their strengths through comprehensive, quality services that meet the current needs of the community; innovation that anticipates future needs; and advocacy to improve the community as a whole.

University Settlement operates after-school programs for elementary and middle school children at several sites in Brooklyn and Manhattan. These programs provide academic support; artistic, cultural, and athletic enrichment; therapeutic services; and opportunities for family involvement. As the Group Leader, you are a team building leader. You are creative, energetic, and committed to providing the highest quality of programming for children and families.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Create and lead engaging activities for children or youth, ensuring safety and comfort of students
  • Design and implement lesson plans for multidisciplinary activities and incorporating student feedback
  • Provide academic assistance during homework period
  • Serve as a positive role model for youth and uphold professional behavior at all times
  • Collaborate with co-counselor and other colleagues; communicate regularly with supervisory staff
  • Communicate with parents and caregivers regarding student progress and problem solving
  • Maintain responsibility for designated program supplies and proper use of all facilities, including classrooms
  • Complete all necessary documentation and administrative tasks

What We Are Looking For:

  • You have a High School diploma or HSE.
  • You have experience working with middle school population.
  • You need to commit to an academic year.
  • You are 18 years old or older.

Rate: $16.50 per hour

Hours: 16 hours per week
