In 2014, University Settlement was invited to expand our highly regarded Early Childhood Program into a new site in Brooklyn, creating a partnership with Park Slope North/Helen Owen Carey Child Development Center. We are excited to provide the critical early intervention and educational support that will form the foundation for a lifetime of learning to nearly 200 children in this community.

The center provides a full-year, full-day program (8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.) with 9 classrooms for children ages 2 to 5. Each classroom includes a head teacher, assistant teacher and teacher's aide, providing a balance of child-centered and teacher-directed experiences.

Park Slope North/Helen Owen Carey relies on a play-based curriculum to support children's development and learning. Children explore science, math, literacy, cooperation and collaboration through carefully planned, interactive activities.

This bright and cheery facility has a rooftop playground, a library, and a large children's garden in the backyard. The gorgeous garden serves as another example of the hands on approach taken at Park Slope North/Helen Owen Carey.

Supporting a diverse community, this center has spots for families of all economic backgrounds, including those that use ACS or HRA vouchers to assist with childcare payments, as well as those who qualify for universal pre-kindergarten and private tuition.
