Chef André Soltner, America's first "superstar" chef, began his career at the age of 15 at the Hôtel du Parc in Mulhouse, in his native Alsace, France, but rose to real fame as the chef-owner of New York City's legendary Lutèce, which achieved a four-star rating from The New York Times.
Chef Soltner has received more than 25 awards, including the prestigious Meilleurs Ouvriers de France, Officier du Mérite National, Chevalier du Mérite Agricole, James Beard Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award, and, most recently, Légione d'Honneur. He is the co-author of The Lutèce Cookbook. In Alsace, a statue has been erected in gratitude for his success in popularizing the great wines of the region. Chef Soltner has served for more than 20 years as Délégué Général of the Master Chefs of France. Since 1995 he has also served as Dean of Classic Studies for The International Culinary Center.Fondly referred to as Mr. Chocolate, Chef Jacques Torres is a master pastry chef and an authority on all things related to chocolate.
In 2000, he fulfilled his American dream, opening his first chocolate factory, Jacques Torres Chocolate, to critical acclaim. Chef Torres has been recognized with numerous awards, including the prestigious Meilleur Ouvrier de France Pâtissier medal. He was the youngest chef to earn this distinction.Opening in February 1961 at 249 East 50th Street in New York City, Lutèce defined the very essence of fine cuisine and elegant dining.
Beloved by foodists and frequented by dignitaries, celebrities, and New York Society, it was, under chef-owner André Soltner's master hand and watchful eye, the vanguard ushering in an appreciation for classic cuisine that was heretofore virtually unknown in the United States. Julia Child and a panel of food critics proclaimed Lutèce the best restaurant in the United States, a rank it also held in the Zagat's survey for six consecutive years. Chef Soltner famously missed just five days in his 34 years at the helm of the renowned four-star landmark institution. He sold his interest in the restaurant in 1994 and Lutèce finally closed its doors on February 14, 2004.Scott Carney has distinguished himself as one of only 118 Master Sommeliers in North America.
His passion for wine led him to positions with a number of prestigious restaurants including Gotham Bar and Grill, The Jean-Georges organization, Picholine, Tocqueville, the Russian Tea Room, and Junoon. He currently serves as the Director of Wine Education and Dean of Wine Studies at the International Culinary Center, the world's leading culinary center for education founded as The French Culinary Institute.Lydia Fenet joined Christie's in September 1999 as a member of the Client Advisory team, and since her first auction in 2001, has become one of Christie's most experienced benefit auctioneers.
She has helped to raise millions of dollars for some of the largest nonprofit organizations in the United States, including The Clinton Foundation, amFAR, and The Food Bank For New York City, and was recently named one of the top five auctioneers in New York. In February 2010, she launched the Strategic Partnerships program at Christie's in order to create global partnerships with other luxury brands, and due to its success, was promoted to International Director of Strategic Partnerships in August 2011.David Autry, Wine Director and Sommelier, Aretsky's Patroon
