More than just a performance series, The Performance Project @ University Settlement cultivates creative community by hosting events that connect working artists to residents from the Lower East Side. Our Monday Nigh Salon Series offers an ongoing series of participatory arts events and conversations about important issues facing the arts and the local community. Salon events are free and open to the public. To find out how you can participate in a salon, please contact Alison Fleminger at afleminger@universitysettlement.org.
SHARE! CinemaMonday, June 18 at 7:00pmADMISSION IS FREE!
Share Cinema is a curated presenting series featuring short films and video, created by filmmaker, director and performer Josh Adler and co-curated by the award-winning film collective Meerkat Media. The mission of Share Cinema is to bring together emerging and established filmmakers to share and learn from their work. In addition to exhibiting artistic and technical innovations in filmmaking, selected works share an emotional, political, spiritual, environmental or imaginative value. This series seeks to promote a greater awareness of and inspiration for collective creativity and consensus building. Selected work may include music videos, documentaries, vintage, animation, art-house, installation, sketch comedy, and educational projects. Instruction for Entry Submissions
All entries must be shorter than 20 minutes. Send your high resolution .mov or .mp4 file to ShareCinemaNYC@gmail.com via www.YouSendit.com or www.WeTransfer.com. In your email please include the work's title, a logline, running time, the names of all primary collaborators and their contact information. Josh Adler has created award-winning short films, pilots, music videos and video journalism. He is also co-curator of the Cinema Unseen series. Josh chooses work that challenges the veracity of his personal experience. He responds to image, sound and story woven together in a way that awakens new perceptions and enlivens the context in which they occur. Some of his favorite films include The Werkmeister Harmonies, Never Give an Inch, El Topo, Amarcord, and Man on Wire. The Meerkat Media Collective is a self-organized community of media makers committed to creating innovative and thought-provoking films through shared authorship. Since 2005, they have produced and distributed over twenty independent short films and two features all created using various forms of consensus process. Their work has been broadcast on HBO, PBS, ESPN and MTV, featured in venues across NYC (92Y, Anthology Film Archives, Maysles Cinema, IFC Center), festivals around the world and in publications such as New York Magazine, Atlantic Monthly, TIME Magazine and the Huffington Post. In addition to filmmakers, the active membership of meerkat media includes rooftop farmers, graphic designers, high school teachers, managers of non-profits and an ethnomusicologist. |
