Position:
Tutor I
Overview:
University Settlement has a contract with the NYC Department of Education to provide Supplemental Education Services for elementary school students at NYC public school and at University Settlement. We are seeking tutors who will assist our lead teachers and tutor children in Math and Language Arts.
Responsibilities:
- Provide instruction as directed by lead teacher in the above mentioned subjects
- Work with other SES staff to ensure each participant has an individual academic plan
- Document and monitor attendance and progress of children
- Attend all relevant staff meetings at University Settlement/or relevant school
- Any other functions and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Sufficiently proficient in both program areas (Math and English Language Arts) to provide academic assistance to elementary school students
- Previous experience working with young people in a school setting preferred
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Energy, creativity, initiative, flexibility and a sense of humor
Supervisor:
SES Program Coordinator
Salary:
4.5 hours per week at a minimum, 9 hours per week at a maximum. Availability to work through June is mandatory
Hours:
$13 - $15 an hour
