Overview:

University Settlement, established in 1886 in the Lower East Side operates a 42,000 square-foot community facility (in partnership with the Chinatown Y) that includes recreational, fitness, classroom, meeting and office space for the community. The Office Assistant will be responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere, providing excellent customer services, and regular monitoring of center activities in University Settlement’s spaces. In addition, s/he will be an active member of the team that fulfills the mission of University Settlement and the Center.

Responsibilities:
  • Front desk and phone reception, tours, information sharing and customer relations with all inquiries.
  • Physically roving the center, in coordination with other center staff, during high use times and at regular intervals, to ensure safety and proper use of the center.
  • Assure daily and hourly renters have reserved resources ready and available; trouble-shoot and address problems with users, equipment, spaces in coordination with Community Coordinator, Center Assistant Director, Center Director, and YMCA partners.
  • Assist with room set-ups to ensure that the space is properly equipped.
  • Data-entry and other administrative tasks.
  • Assist with correspondence, reporting, billing and other administrative duties.
  • Assist with outreach and other public activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director.
Qualifications:
  • College and/or other significant administrative experience
  • Prior customer relations experience required; experience in a non-profit setting preferred.
  • Excellent communication and computer skills, understanding of neighboring communities, and cultural competency required.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a collaborative team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, problem solving ability and crisis intervention skills required.
  • Bilingual in both Cantonese and Mandarin strongly preferred.
Hours:

Full-time, 35 hours per week (Monday through Friday)

Salary:

$13.10 an hour, ($23,800 annually), excellent benefits
