Position:
Asst. Director – Children Under Five MH Initiative / Butterflies Program
Supervisor: Director, Infant & Toddler Mental Health
Overview: Through one-year NY City Council grant allocations University Settlement anticipates funding for the continuation of the Children Under Five Mental Health Initiative, designed to provide evaluations and mental health services to children under the age of five, and their families, particularly those impacted by domestic violence. Since the original implementation the program has successfully reached out to residents in nearby and outlying communities representing various language and cultural groups, who are frequently hesitant to access mental health services. The early childhood programs within the Settlement have emerged as a major referral source for the program. Given the growth and complexity of the Butterflies the role of the Asst. Director is designed to assist in the day-to-day operation of the program, particularly in the absence of the Director, and to provide clinical consultation to program staff, parents and caregivers, and instructional staff at various sites. The Asst. Director will also identify and respond to training needs as they emerge.
Responsibilities: These include, but are not limited to:
- Monitor all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the program
- Evaluate the mental health needs of children under the age of five
- Provide clinical consultation to program staff as well as to parents/caregivers and instructional staff.
- Ability to provide direct services to children and families.
- Ascertain training needs and assist in the identification of appropriate training resources
- Conduct extensive outreach among various early childhood programs within the Settlement, and among community partners
- Revise and update outreach tools
- Conduct psycho-educational training to parents, staff & professional members of the community
- Implement outcome measures
- Maintain reports, administrative and clinical records in accordance with OMH/DOHMH standards.
- Supervision of graduate student interns
- Participate in the identification, selection, training and supervision of qualified staff
- Represent the program within the Settlement and at community events
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- LCSW required or a PhD or PsyD in human service will be consider.
- Five years of clinical experience in a mental health setting with an emphasis in the treatment of young children; with knowledge of treatment strategies in the areas of child behavior management and family dynamics
- Possesses the ability to work with families in a supportive manner throughout the diagnostic and referral process
- Demonstrated experience in service development and implementation
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Chinese preferred

Commensurate with experience
Hours:
Full time, 35 hrs /week; some flex scheduling possible.
